A citation can show that research was noticed. But does it tell us what the research changed? This is why the conversation around research impact needs to move beyond a single number. We should also ask: Did the research influence a decision? Did it change a practice? Did it lead to another idea or collaboration? Did it contribute to innovation or solve a real-world problem?
